My hair finally stopped falling out!

Do you shudder at the thought of showering because your hair's staging a mass exodus? Oh, believe me, I've been there. Thanks to the delightful rollercoaster of divorce and some other life curveballs, my hair decided to check out. I spent years chasing products that swore they'd turn my hair into a luscious mane, but spoiler alert: they didn't work a lick.
I tried everything from supplements to topical treatments—if it was on the shelf, I tried it. But all those ointments just made my scalp itch and turned it as red as a tomato. Apparently, I'm allergic to whatever magic potion the ointments are dissolved in. Yet, I still dreaded those showers, watching more hair take the plunge. And yes, I cried rivers. If you want to know what I have tried see my previous blog post.
I still can't shake the habit of checking out that hair clump after washing my hair. Honestly, I'm glad I do because it's helped me track my progress since I started on oral meds. Anyway, here's a pic of the gross hair blob I pulled from the drain back in November. Just so you know, I have cats that love drinking the shower water, so those short dark hairs are theirs. I promise they aren't pubes!
In November, I was devastated and finally went to a dermatologist. He looked at my scalp and declared that it was female pattern baldness and hair loss due to traumatic events. How does he know? He based this on looking at the pattern of thinning hair on my scalp. I mentioned I was thinking of trying a cocktail of oral spironolactone/minoxidil/vitaminD3 25mg/1.5mg/2000IU from Happy Head (not a paid promotion, I swear!). He gave me the green light, saying, "Go for it! It should do the trick!"

I was told it would take about 3 months to see results, but who has time for patience, right? While I’m not rocking a lion's mane just yet, I don't see clumps of hair left behind in my shower anymore, it's just a few strands here and there. My hair also feels fuller and more voluminous. And that's because I am starting to grow baby hairs. I went to the salon last week and my stylist was so excited at how much hair growth she was seeing. Bottom line, if those topicals aren't working for you or if they irritate your scalp, try the oral route. Science for the big win!

I wish I could say that I was taking the hair thinning in stride, but no, not even close. I feel so much more confident in myself now that it's starting to grow back. And I am finally not stressing about other people staring at my shiny scalp anymore. The reality is hair loss is devastating to a woman, but I'm here to tell you there absolutely is hope.
